Huge tract of Texas coast land to become state park

Texas state park officials are now in possession of 17,351 acres of spectacular property along the Texas coast. The Powerderhorn Ranch in Calhoun County is one of the last big tracts of Texas coastal prairie. The big chunk of land cost a big chunk of money -- $37.7 million, making the deal the state's biggest-ever conservation land purchase. The Lone Star government is aiming to turn the property into a state park and wildlife management area.

The state partnered with several other agencies, conservation organizations, and individual donors to swing the deal.

This state-produced four minute video shows off just what visitors can enjoy in the future when the gates to Powderhorn Ranch swing open to public visitors.
